Red Lorry Film Festival 2026: Ram Gopal Varma's Bhoot Continues to Fascinate Audiences
Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has been regaling audiences with his incredible stories and insights at the ongoing Red Lorry Film Festival 2026. On the second day of the festival, he shared some fascinating trivia about his much-loved horror flick, Bhoot (2003). In a candid conversation with fans, Varma revealed that he had made a similar film titled Raat (1992), which features a father-daughter storyline. However, when he adapted the same concept for Bhoot, he changed the characters to a husband and wife, set in an apartment, and cleverly managed to keep the audience in the dark.
When asked about the scene in Bhoot where the audience first catches a glimpse of the ghost, Varma explained that he had deliberately played with the audience's expectations. He said, 'The audience starts bracing themselves for something to happen, and then I cut to a wide shot. They are wondering what would happen, but they don't see anybody.' The master filmmaker further revealed that when the camera tilts down to reveal the ghost, the audience is left startled, and he even recalled an instance where viewers at the Eros theatre in Mumbai jumped one foot into the air in response.
Bhoot's impact on audiences is a testament to Varma's skill as a storyteller. By expertly manipulating their expectations, he created a thrilling experience that has left a lasting impression on viewers. As the Red Lorry Film Festival 2026 continues to delight audiences with its array of fascinating stories and insights, Bhoot remains a shining example of Varma's mastery in the world of horror cinema.
