Kenya Fights Against Proposed US Ebola Quarantine Facility

Kenyan police have shot dead a man during a protest against a proposed Ebola quarantine facility for US citizens. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and protests across the country.

The proposed facility, aimed at housing 50 beds and staffed by 30 medical personnel from the US, has been met with fierce resistance from locals, who fear the presence of potential Ebola carriers on Kenyan soil.

The Kenya Human Rights Commission has condemned the police's actions, stating that hooded officers fired live bullets and arbitrarily arrested 19 protesters.

The Kenyan government, despite facing mounting opposition, remains committed to pressing ahead with the plan, citing years of aid support from the US.

Meanwhile, health officials in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) continue to battle an outbreak of the rare Bundibugyo virus, which has caused a public health emergency of international concern.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported 515 confirmed cases and 91 deaths in the DRC, as well as 19 confirmed cases and two deaths in Uganda.

The Kenyan president, William Ruto, has vowed to push forward with the plan, despite the growing outcry from the public.
