Hera Pheri Franchise Rights Dispute: Firoz A. Nadiadwallah Takes Legal Action

In a dramatic development, the iconic Hera Pheri franchise finds itself at the center of a legal dispute. Firoz A. Nadiadwallah, a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, has taken a bold step to protect his rights by registering a First Information Report (FIR) against Gopala Pillai Vijayakumar and M Paul Michael, also known as Lal. This move comes in response to Vijayakumar's claims of owning the rights to the beloved franchise.

The dispute began when Vijayakumar, the Managing Director of Seven Arts International, approached the Madras High Court in February 2026, challenging Nadiadwallah's decision to produce Hera Pheri 3. Vijayakumar asserted his ownership of the franchise and questioned the legality of the sequel's production without his consent.

However, the tables have turned with Nadiadwallah's FIR, filed on April 27, 2026, at the Amboli Police Station in Mumbai. The FIR invokes serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including sections 318(4), 356, and 3(5).

Nadiadwallah's complaint is backed by a comprehensive documentary trail, including assignment agreements, financial records, and critical copyright documents. These documents, according to sources, establish Nadiadwallah as the rightful and exclusive owner of the entire Hera Pheri franchise, encompassing all related rights.

Legal experts suggest that the investigation will delve into the intricate details of the case, examining the chain of title, contractual obligations, previous settlements, and financial transactions to ascertain the validity of the claims and the extent of any wrongdoing.

The Hera Pheri series, known for its cult classic status and meme-worthy moments, has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. The original film, released in 2000, and its sequel, Phir Hera Pheri (2006), have left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. With the franchise's future now in question, fans eagerly await the outcome of this legal battle, hoping for a resolution that ensures the beloved Hera Pheri series continues to entertain generations to come.
