BTS Comeback Tour: Fans Fight for Tickets, Scammers Cash In
BTS Army’s Ticket Battle
Vevee, a 26-year-old fan, was determined to see supergroup BTS in Jakarta, Indonesia, after years of waiting. She took the day off work and joined the virtual queue, but the tickets were gone in a flash.
The demand for the septet’s global tour is explosive, especially in Southeast Asia, where the band is performing 15 of their 88 shows. Fans are desperate to secure their spot, leading to a competitive ticketing war.
Scammers Cash In
Scammers have seized this opportunity, targeting fans with promises of exclusive access and lower prices. In Thailand, 126 fans were duped by an offer to “wait in line” for tickets, and in Singapore, police received at least 62 complaints involving BTS concert tickets, with losses amounting to over S$68,000.
These scammers use familiar tactics, such as “power of attorney forms” to convince fans of authenticity. Despite authorities’ warnings, fans are still falling prey.
A Rollercoaster for Fans
It’s been an emotional journey for the BTS Army. Elated by the band’s reunion after a three-year hiatus, they’re also frustrated by the intense competition for tickets. Some fans, like Vevee, have spent significant amounts of money, only to be scammed.
But there’s a glimmer of hope. Vevee, determined to see the band on home turf, strategized with friends, and they successfully secured tickets for the Jakarta show.
The ongoing Arirang World Tour is a significant milestone for the band and their fans, marking the first time BTS will stage multiple shows in five Southeast Asian countries.
As the tour continues to sell out, fans are urged to stay vigilant and purchase tickets only through official channels. The excitement and dedication of the BTS Army are undeniable, but it’s crucial to stay informed and avoid falling victim to scammers.
