Victoria Police Make Arrests in Freeman Fugitive Case

The Victoria Police have made significant progress in their investigation into the Porepunkah fugitive, Dezi Freeman, who was shot dead on Monday after a seven-month manhunt. On Saturday morning, detectives from Taskforce Summit arrested a man and a woman at separate properties in the state's north-east.

According to a police spokesperson, the arrests were made as part of the ongoing investigation into Freeman's movements following the tragic shooting of two officers in Porepunkah last August. The pair were later released, but the police emphasized that the investigation is still in progress.

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush provided further insights into the incident, stating that Freeman had been given every chance to surrender peacefully but chose not to. Bush confirmed that Freeman had left the building with a blanket-like covering and presented a firearm to the officers, leaving them with no choice but to take action.

The police chief also revealed that Freeman's ability to survive in the bush for seven months suggests he had assistance. The investigation will now focus on identifying those who may have helped Freeman during his time on the run.
