JD Vance Defends Hungary’s Sovereignty, Criticizes EU and UK Energy Policies

In a recent speech at a private school in Budapest, US Vice-President JD Vance expressed his support for Hungary's leadership and policies, particularly regarding energy.

Vance praised Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, commending his efforts and stating that he is 'doing a good job' in promoting peace. This endorsement comes amidst growing tensions between Hungary and other European nations.

The vice-president also took the opportunity to criticize the energy policies of the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK). He accused the EU of attempting to influence Hungarian elections by threatening to withhold billions of dollars in funding if Hungary does not align with its border policies.

Vance emphasized the importance of respecting Hungarian sovereignty and the right of the Hungarian people to make their own decisions. He argued that foreign actors, including transnational organizations and governments, should not threaten Hungary's autonomy.

This speech highlights the growing divide between Hungary and some of its European counterparts. Vance's comments suggest a potential shift in US-Hungary relations, with a focus on mutual respect and support for Hungary's independence.
