Zelenskyy Offers Ukraine’s Expertise to Secure Middle East Waterways

In a significant development, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has offered his country's expertise in maritime security to support the freedom of navigation in the Black Sea and the Strait of Hormuz. This offer comes amidst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and Ukraine's own experience in defending its waterways.

Zelenskyy, in his nightly video address, highlighted Ukraine's relevant expertise in dealing with sea waterways and the reopening of maritime traffic. He emphasized that Ukraine is ready to assist its partners in strengthening their capabilities and applying Ukrainian knowledge and technology.

This proposal follows a virtual meeting attended by Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, where approximately 40 countries discussed strategies to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The meeting underscores the international community's commitment to ensuring safe navigation in the region.

Meanwhile, Russia's military advances in Ukraine have shown signs of slowing down. According to an AFP analysis of data from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Russian army made no territorial gains on the frontline in March, marking a significant shift in the conflict's dynamics.

The analysis further revealed that Ukrainian forces have made localized breakthroughs in the southeast, pushing back Russian troops. In the southern section of the frontline, between the Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions, Russia has lost ground in recent months.

As the conflict continues, Ukraine's resilience and international support remain key factors in shaping the outcome. Zelenskyy's offer of expertise highlights Ukraine's willingness to contribute to global maritime security, even amidst its own challenges.
