Trump Extends Iran Energy Threat Pause, Claims Tehran’s Request

In a surprising development, US President Donald Trump has once again postponed his threat to strike Iranian energy infrastructure. This time, he has extended the deadline by 10 days until April 6, 2026, claiming that the request came directly from Tehran.

Trump's announcement comes after a series of events that have escalated tensions in the Middle East. Severe explosions were reported at a US military base in Saudi Arabia, according to Iran's Tasnim news agency, which is linked to the Revolutionary Guards.

The Israel Defence Forces' chief of staff, Gen Eyal Zamir, has warned of a potential collapse of the military due to increasing demands and a manpower shortage. Zamir's concerns were echoed by opposition leader Yair Lapid, who stated that Israel was facing a security disaster.

Meanwhile, Israel has been bombing Lebanon and sending ground troops to establish a 'defensive buffer' zone in the south. Hezbollah, a Lebanese political party and militant group, has claimed attacks on Israeli targets inside Lebanon and across the border.

The conflict has also impacted global markets. South Korean shares have fallen, and Japan's Nikkei share average is on track for a fourth straight weekly decline. The UN food and agriculture agency's top economist, Maximo Torero, has warned of serious consequences if the Iran war lasts three to six months, affecting food security, energy, and economic development worldwide.

Trump's decision to extend the pause on his threat to attack Iran's energy infrastructure comes amidst these complex and volatile circumstances. The US president has stated that talks are going well, but Tehran has dismissed such claims as 'fake news'.
