Sydney Teacher Accused of Grooming Teen Girl

A high school teacher in Sydney has been accused of grooming a teenage girl and offering her money for sexually explicit material.

Police allege the 29-year-old man targeted a 14-year-old girl, whom he did not know, before she told her parents who alerted authorities.

The teacher was arrested in Beecroft, in Sydney's north, at 5:45 am on Thursday. He is accused of first making contact with the girl on 18 March, and at one stage offering her money for sexually explicit material.

The man taught at a secondary school for boys, which police declined to name. He was charged with using a carriage service to groom a child aged under 16 years for sex, and using a carriage service to access child abuse material.

A thorough investigation is underway to determine if there are any other children who have been victims of this particular predator.

It is a timely reminder for children, but also importantly parents, to know what your children are doing online and to be vigilant about their online activities.

The man was set to face Burwood local court on Thursday after being denied bail.
