Keir Starmer’s Knowledge of Mandelson’s Security Concerns Questioned
In a recent press conference, Nigel Farage, the former leader of the Brexit Party, raised doubts about Keir Starmer's knowledge of security concerns surrounding Peter Mandelson's appointment as the US ambassador.
Farage referred to a Telegraph report, which revealed that senior Whitehall sources had informed The Telegraph that the UK Security Vetting (UKSV) findings reiterated security risks previously communicated to Sir Keir.
A senior source close to the process stated, 'Starmer had already been warned about the major risks and he had waved them away.' This suggests that Starmer was indeed aware of potential issues with Mandelson's appointment.
Furthermore, sources from The Independent indicated that MI6's decision to not clear Mandelson was influenced by his business ties with China and past associations with Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted paedophile. These concerns could have compromised Mandelson's position.
Farage expressed disbelief that the Prime Minister could have been unaware of these warning signs, especially given news reports in September last year that highlighted Mandelson's failure to pass the vetting process. He questioned why the Prime Minister did not investigate the matter further.
The Labour backbenchers, for now, seem content with their leader, but the situation may change after the upcoming May 7th events.
