Bedford Train Crash: Family of Driver Shaun Burton Mourns His Loss

Tributes Pour in for Beloved Train Driver

The family of Shaun Burton, the driver who tragically lost his life in the Bedford train crash, has released a heartfelt tribute, expressing their devastation at his sudden passing.

In a statement, they said, “We are devastated by his loss. Our thoughts are also with those affected by this incident.”

Burton, 60, was a well-respected and dedicated railway professional, known for his quick wit and kind nature.

A Life Dedicated to the Railway

Burton’s journey to becoming a train driver was an inspiring one. He joined the railway relatively late in life, having previously worked on buses and coaches. His dedication and passion for the job were evident, and he was a beloved colleague and friend to many.

Dave Calfe, general secretary of the train driver union Aslef, shared his condolences, saying, “Shaun’s death leaves a hole in the lives of his family, friends, and colleagues that can never be filled.”

Calfe also highlighted Burton’s commitment to his work, his devotion to colleagues, and his popularity at the depot.

A Community in Mourning

The impact of Burton’s passing extends beyond his family and colleagues. Will Rogers, managing director of East Midlands Railway (EMR), described him as a “well-respected colleague” and a “dedicated railway professional.”

The Bedford train crash has shaken the community, with many passengers still recovering from the incident. The collision, which occurred on Friday, resulted in the injury of 100 people, with 11 sustaining very serious injuries.

As the investigation into the crash continues, the railway family and the wider community are coming together to support each other during this difficult time.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch, working alongside British Transport Police, is expected to provide an update in the coming days.

In the meantime, the focus remains on the recovery and healing of those affected, both physically and emotionally.
