Ranveer Singh’s Unconditional Apology: A Step Towards Cultural Sensitivity
In a significant development, renowned actor Ranveer Singh is set to submit an affidavit offering an unconditional apology for his recent mimicry of a scene from the critically acclaimed film 'Kantara'. This move comes as a response to the ongoing controversy surrounding his actions at the International Film Festival of India 2025's closing ceremony.
The affidavit, according to a report by NDTV, will be filed before the court on April 10, 2026, marking the next hearing in this case. This step is a part of a comprehensive apology process, which also includes a personal visit by the actor to the revered Chamundi Temple in Mysuru.
The need for a more formal apology was raised by the complainant's counsel, who argued that Ranveer's initial written apology on social media was insufficient. Prashant Methal, the complainant's lawyer, emphasized that the earlier apology seemed formal rather than a sincere expression of regret.
Ranveer Singh's legal team assured the court that the actor was genuinely affected by the situation and would submit a written apology in the form of an affidavit. This controversy stems from the IFFI closing ceremony in Goa, where Ranveer praised the performance of filmmaker-actor Rishab Shetty in 'Kantara: Chapter 1'. During his speech, Ranveer imitated a Daiva possession sequence from the film, referring to the figure as a 'female ghost'.
While Ranveer's intention was to pay tribute, some viewers perceived his imitation as insensitive and disrespectful to the cultural context of the scene. Reports suggest that Rishab Shetty, who was present, advised against continuing the act. Following the backlash, Ranveer promptly issued an apology on Instagram, clarifying his admiration for Rishab's performance and expressing regret for any hurt caused.
This incident highlights the importance of cultural sensitivity and respect, especially in the public sphere. Ranveer Singh's forthcoming actions demonstrate his commitment to addressing the issue and ensuring a respectful resolution.
