Peru Nightclub Bombing Injures 33, Including Minors
A shocking incident has rocked the northern coast of Peru, as a bombing at a nightclub has left 33 people injured, including minors. The explosion took place in the early hours at the Dalí nightclub in the province of Trujillo, according to local authorities.
The region has been grappling with a surge in violence and crime, and this incident adds to the growing concerns. The nightclub bombing injured 33 people, with at least five in serious condition. Gerardo Florián Gómez, the executive director of the Trujillo Health Network, reported that some victims suffered amputations and shrapnel wounds, requiring immediate surgery.
Fiorella Mantilla, a witness at the nightclub, described the terrifying moment, stating that glass became embedded in her legs. She recalled the sudden silence as if the sound system had been abruptly turned off. A witness video published by La República newspaper captures the chaos, with people shouting 'Bomb!' and rushing to evacuate the club.
This bombing comes less than a month after another blast in the same city, which damaged homes but caused no injuries. The La Libertad region, where Trujillo is located, has been plagued by extortion and illegal mining. Official figures reveal that in 2025, the region experienced 286 explosions, with 136 occurring in Trujillo alone.
The rise in organized criminal groups has led to an increase in extortion and other related crimes. The nightclub bombing highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures and a comprehensive strategy to address the underlying issues causing the region's instability.
