Northumbria Police Officer Dies in Tragic Incident

A Young Officer’s Tragic End

PC Jess Turnbull, a 19-year-old Northumbria police officer, has lost her life in a tragic incident while on duty. Turnbull, who joined the force in September 2022, was responding to a collision on the A189 Spine Road in Cramlington, Northumberland, on Monday night when she was struck by a car.

The young officer’s death has left her colleagues and the community in mourning, with Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine describing Turnbull as a dedicated and committed member of the force.

A Life Dedicated to Service

Turnbull’s career in policing was short but impactful. She joined the force just months ago and was already making a difference in her community. Jardine highlighted Turnbull’s dedication and commitment, noting that she always sought to keep her communities safe.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by police officers every day. Despite the risks, officers like Turnbull selflessly put themselves in harm’s way to protect the public.

An Outpouring of Grief and Support

The news of Turnbull’s death has sparked an outpouring of grief and support from the community and her colleagues. The force’s headquarters in Wallsend flew the union flag at half-mast as a mark of respect.

Jardine expressed her condolences, emphasizing the impact of Turnbull’s sacrifice. She assured that the force would continue to support Turnbull’s loved ones and each other during this difficult time.

Investigating the Incident

Northumbria Police is currently investigating the collision. A 73-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and later arrested again on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is currently on bail.

The force has appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident. They have also asked that tributes to Turnbull be left at the flagpole outside the force headquarters, where they will be moved to the private memorial garden.

As the investigation continues, the community and Turnbull’s colleagues are left to mourn the loss of a dedicated young officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
