Explosive Device Detonated in Moscow

A homemade explosive device detonated at an Italian restaurant in Moscow has left at least three people dead and 21 injured, according to Russian state media.

The blast occurred around 20:00 local time (17:00 GMT) on Kudrinskaya Square, a bustling area near the city centre.

Security Guard’s Quick Action

The National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAK) reported that a woman carrying the explosives attempted to enter the restaurant but was stopped by a vigilant security guard. Unfortunately, the device detonated, killing the woman, the guard, and a restaurant visitor.

The restaurant, located in one of Moscow’s iconic Stalin-era skyscrapers, was hosting a private event at the time.

Investigation and Response

Authorities have not revealed the guest list or commented on the intended target of the attack. However, witnesses reported seeing people being carried out, covered in blood, immediately after the explosion.

Initial reports suggested the blast occurred in the kitchen, but the restaurant later clarified that the incident took place outside.

Roads around the square were temporarily closed, affecting a planned evening cycling event. Video footage showed a heavy law enforcement presence at the scene, ensuring public safety.

This incident is the latest in a series of attacks targeting senior Russian military figures in and around Moscow in recent years, for which Moscow has blamed Kyiv.
