London’s Historic March: Uniting Against Far-Right Extremism

In a remarkable display of solidarity, London witnessed what organizers believe to be the largest anti-far-right demonstration in history, with an estimated half a million people taking to the streets. The Together Alliance coalition, led by co-organizer Kevin Courtney, celebrated this achievement, emphasizing its significance in the ongoing fight against extremism.

The Metropolitan Police, however, provided a more conservative estimate of 50,000 attendees, acknowledging the challenge of counting the dispersed crowd across central London. Aerial footage and on-the-ground images vividly captured the scale of the march, showcasing a diverse range of participants.

The march was not without its counter-protesters, who waved Israeli, American, and Iranian flags. Despite this, the event remained peaceful, with organizers expressing confidence in the size of their mobilization and its ability to intimidate far-right groups.

The Together Alliance, a coalition of various groups, including Stand Up to Racism, was formed in response to the growing far-right sentiment in the UK. The march featured speeches, music, and a diverse range of attendees, from politicians to musicians, all united against discrimination and division.

The event also served as a platform for environmental concerns, with groups like Cut The Ties to Fossil Fuels and Extinction Rebellion drawing attention to climate change. This multifaceted approach to activism underscores the interconnectedness of various social and political issues.

The march concluded with a strong union presence, speeches on Whitehall, and a music event in Trafalgar Square, all contributing to a powerful message of unity and resistance against far-right ideologies.
