Police Chase Ends in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Ilford

A dramatic police chase in the early hours of the morning ended in a multi-vehicle crash in Ilford, east London. The incident began when Metropolitan Police officers attempted to stop a suspected stolen vehicle, but the driver failed to comply, leading to a short pursuit.

The chase came to a sudden halt when the fleeing car collided with another vehicle, resulting in a significant impact. The incident occurred at the junction of Barley Lane and High Road, a busy intersection in the area.

Emergency services were swiftly dispatched to the scene, with the London Ambulance Service (LAS) receiving a call at 12:30 am. The LAS deployed an impressive array of resources, including an air ambulance and a hazardous areas response team, to ensure the best possible care for those involved.

The collision resulted in ten people requiring medical attention, with nine of them being transported to nearby hospitals. The injured included those in both cars and a motor scooter rider. The ages of the victims ranged from 14 to 46, with five sustaining serious injuries.

The driver of the suspected stolen vehicle, a woman in her 20s, was arrested on multiple charges, including dangerous driving, theft, and failing to stop. She remains in hospital under police custody. Additionally, the four passengers in the stolen car were also arrested on suspicion of being in a stolen vehicle and are receiving medical care.

The Metropolitan Police have appealed for any witnesses or individuals with relevant information to come forward. The junction remains closed as investigations continue, with officers working diligently to gather evidence and ensure a thorough understanding of the events that unfolded.
