High Court Witness Scandal Exposed: Smart Glasses Used to Cheat Justice
In a shocking revelation, a high court claimant has been found to have used his smart glasses to receive answers during his testimony. Laimonas Jakštys was being questioned in a case brought by himself and the Lithuanian company UAB Business Enterprise against the Insolvency and Companies List. The judge, Raquel Agnello KC, discovered that Jakštys was wearing smart glasses during his evidence and that he was being assisted or coached in his replies to questions.
The judge observed that Jakštys would pause before replying to questions, and that interference could be heard on his glasses. When the defence counsel, Sarah Walker, asked him to remove his glasses, it was revealed that his mobile phone was broadcasting out loud with the voice of someone talking. The judge then directed that the smart glasses and mobile phone be placed into the hands of his solicitor.
Agnello rejected Jakštys's evidence in its entirety and found for the defendants. Walker noted that this was a career first for her, but that technological advances may make such incidents more frequent in the future.
