Knitting Mystery Solved: Granny H’s Identity Revealed
The Elusive Granny H
For two years, the residents of Hartford, Cheshire, have been charmed by a mysterious knitter who leaves handmade gifts around the village. Hundreds of knitted animals, each with a gift tag signed by “Granny H”, have been discovered by delighted children.
But who was this anonymous knitter? Many villagers doubted she even existed.
The Real Granny H
Now, the mystery has been solved. Granny H is 90-year-old June Rose Hood, a grandmother who has been knitting for the village’s children as a form of therapy for her anxiety.
“I just love doing it,” she told BBC North West Tonight.
Her grandson, Matt Tarry, has been helping her hide the knitted creations, and the community has embraced her as a local celebrity.
A Knitting Therapy
Knitting has been a therapeutic outlet for Granny Hood, who says it has helped her manage her anxiety. “It’s the best thing I have done for it. I really do. I think I’d be a grumpy person without it,” she shared.
The knitting has become a beloved hobby, keeping her engaged and happy. “I just sit and knit, and the time flies by. In fact, I don’t want to do the housework anymore!” she added with a smile.
A Community Celebration
The village recently came together to celebrate Granny Hood’s 90th birthday with a surprise party. “It’s overwhelming, and I don’t know what to say. I’m really shocked to see everyone. I think it’s the best thing to happen to me in my 90 years,” she said, visibly moved.
Her family, including daughter Paula Tarry, organized the event, and the community showed their appreciation for her knitted gifts. “It has been magical. I can’t thank everyone enough for recognizing what my mum does,” said Paula.
Granny Hood’s knitting has brought joy to the village and has become a heartwarming tradition, with her creations eagerly sought after by children and adults alike.
