Europe Braces for Drone Threats from Terrorists and Criminals

Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has urged European nations to prepare for potential attacks by non-state actors, including criminal networks and terror groups. During his UK visit, Zelenskyy demonstrated the latest drone technology to British MPs and peers, highlighting the growing threat of mass attacks on civilians.

In his speech at Westminster, Zelenskyy emphasized that the regimes in Moscow and Tehran were 'brothers in hatred', with Russia using Iranian-designed Shahed drones to attack critical infrastructure in Ukraine. He warned that mass attacks were no longer the preserve of wealthy nations like Russia, but could now be carried out by even lone attackers with access to drone technology.

Zelenskyy suggested that the Middle East conflict had revived Russia's ailing economy by increasing oil revenue, and that Ukraine could miss out on air defense systems being deployed to the region. He called on the west to maintain its resolve in supporting Ukraine and to weaken Russia's hand in the conflict.

The Ukrainian president also highlighted the need for European nations to be prepared for drone attacks, saying that they could be launched from land or sea and could be equipped with AI technology. He offered to provide defensive support to western allies, including interception teams and radars, to counter the growing threat of drone attacks.

Zelenskyy's warning comes as the world grapples with the increasing threat of drone technology in the hands of non-state actors. As the regimes in Russia and Iran continue to develop and share advanced weapons, the risk of mass attacks on civilians grows.

European nations must take heed of Zelenskyy's warning and prepare for the potential threat of drone attacks. By working together and sharing intelligence, they can ensure that they are better equipped to counter the growing threat of non-state actors.
