Bangladesh’s ‘Donald Trump’ Buffalo Spared from Sacrifice
In a heartwarming turn of events, a 700kg albino buffalo in Bangladesh, affectionately named 'Donald Trump', has been given a new lease of life. The animal, with its distinctive blond tuft, was destined for ritual slaughter during Eid al-Adha but was spared at the last minute due to its unusual appearance and the public's fascination.
The story began as a simple Eid tradition, with the buffalo being sold for sacrifice. However, its unique blond fringe and calm nature quickly captured the nation's attention, with videos going viral and crowds flocking to see this gentle giant. The farm owner, Ziauddin Mridha, revealed the Trump nickname was given due to the buffalo's resemblance to the former US president.
The public's interest sparked security concerns, prompting the Minister of Home Affairs, Salahuddin Ahmed, to intervene. The buffalo was saved, the buyer refunded, and it was relocated to the national zoo in Dhaka. This decision was made to ensure the animal's safety and to cater to the public's curiosity.
Albino buffaloes are a rare sight in Bangladesh, where most cattle are dark-colored. This particular buffalo's gentle nature and unique appearance made it a standout during the Eid livestock season. Its story serves as a reminder of the power of public interest and the importance of preserving rare and unique creatures.
