British Activists Detail Abuse by Israeli Forces

In a recent development, two British activists, Alice Chapman and Zak Khan, have come forward with shocking accounts of their encounter with Israeli forces. The incident occurred last week when they were part of a humanitarian aid flotilla bound for Gaza.

The flotilla, named Global Sumud, was intercepted in international waters near Crete by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Among the 180 detainees, Chapman and Khan, both UK nationals, have shared their traumatic experiences.

Zak Khan, a Green party council election candidate, recounted being shot in the leg with a rubber bullet and subsequently beaten by four Israeli soldiers. He described being punched, kicked, spat on, and falsely accused of terrorism. Alice Chapman also reported being punched by an Israeli soldier.

The activists' ordeal didn't end with their release. Khan revealed that he suffered a chest infection due to the harsh conditions on board the Israeli prison ship. Detainees were subjected to extreme temperatures, denied water, and had their sleep disrupted by stun grenades. Some were even placed in solitary confinement, while others, like a detainee named Richard, were allegedly beaten inside a shipping container for expressing support for Palestine.

The activists' claims have sparked international concern. Spain and Brazil issued a joint statement condemning the detention of their citizens, Saif Abukeshek and Thiago Ávila, who are still being held in Israel without formal charges.

The Global Sumud flotilla organizers have labeled the Israeli actions as piracy, emphasizing the unlawful seizure of the activists far from Gaza's shores. This incident has brought the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the complexities of international law into sharp focus.
