Bahamas Police Re-Interview US Man in Wife’s Mysterious Disappearance at Sea
The Bahamas Police are taking a closer look into the mysterious disappearance of Lynette Hooker, a 55-year-old US citizen, during a sailing trip with her husband, Brian Hooker. The police have requested a second interview with Mr. Hooker, who claims his wife fell overboard from their dinghy.
Mr. Hooker's attorney, Terrel Butler, confirmed the police's intention to conduct another interview on Monday, following a three-hour interrogation on Friday. This development comes as Mr. Hooker's initial 72-hour custody extension was set to expire on Monday evening, potentially leading to his release or formal charges.
The incident occurred on April 4th, when the couple was sailing from Hope Town to Elbow Cay. Brian Hooker reported that his wife fell from their 8-foot dinghy, and he paddled to Marsh Harbor Boat Yard to alert authorities. He claims that Lynette was holding the boat's engine keys, which shut off, and strong currents carried her away.
However, Lynette's family members have expressed skepticism about this account. Her daughter, Karli Aylesworth, believes it was unlikely for her mother to simply fall from the boat and suggests that the incident may have been pre-planned. Lynette's mother, Darlene Hamlett, also highlighted her daughter's extensive experience with water activities.
The Hookers, known online as 'The Sailing Hookers,' documented their sailing adventures across the Caribbean on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube. Text messages obtained by CBS News reveal that the couple had previously decided to separate but later reconciled, indicating potential marital issues.
In 2015, both Brian and Lynette accused each other of assault, according to a police report. Lynette was arrested but later released due to insufficient evidence. The couple's history of marital discord and alcohol-related disputes have raised further questions about the circumstances surrounding Lynette's disappearance.
