American Student’s Body Found in Barcelona Waters

The body of James 'Jimmy' Gracey, a young American student, has been found in the waters off a Barcelona beach, marking a tragic turn of events for the 20-year-old's spring break trip.

Gracey, a student at the University of Alabama, was last seen outside the Shoko nightclub in Barcelona, Spain, in the early hours of Tuesday. He had been enjoying a night out with friends during his spring break visit to the city.

His body was discovered by police divers and positively identified, according to the press office for Catalonia's regional police. The location of the discovery was near where he was last seen, just outside the popular nightclub.

Gracey's family, residing in Elmhurst, Illinois, became concerned when he failed to return to his rented room and police contacted them about his phone. They were later informed of the tragic news by the police.

Before the official confirmation, Gracey's aunt, Beth Marren O'Reilly, described him as an exemplary young man, a good student, and a role model to his peers and cousins. She shared his travel itinerary, which included a weekend in Amsterdam before arriving in Barcelona.

Barcelona, a renowned tourist destination, is generally considered safe, with pickpocketing being the primary concern for visitors. Its beaches, located close to the city center, are a significant attraction, especially for younger tourists. The area where Gracey was last seen is known for its vibrant nightlife, frequented by both locals and tourists.

The University of Alabama has expressed its condolences and support for Gracey's family during this difficult time.
