London Bus Driver’s Tragic Death: Police Launch Murder Investigation

The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation following the tragic death of a London bus driver, Sergei Krajev, aged 64, who was assaulted near Battersea Bridge.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, and Mr. Krajev was pronounced dead in hospital on Tuesday. Police believe the assault took place after a confrontation on the pavement near the stationary bus.

Gary Jones, 32, was arrested at the scene and charged with causing grievous bodily harm. He appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court and has been remanded in custody. Jones will next appear at Kingston Crown Court on June 15th.

The family of Mr. Krajev has released a heartfelt tribute, describing him as a 'wonderful husband, father, and grandfather'. They highlighted his thoughtful and caring nature, as well as his dedication to his role as a bus driver, where he valued good relationships with colleagues and passengers.

DI Sarah Lee, leading the investigation, has appealed for witnesses and any relevant footage. She acknowledged the concern within the community and among transport workers, assuring them of close collaboration with Transport for London during the investigation.
