Spandau Ballet Singer Jailed for Sexual Offences
In a significant development, Ross Davidson, a former singer for the iconic band Spandau Ballet, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a series of sexual offences. The 38-year-old musician was convicted of two counts of rape, an attempted rape, three sexual assaults, and two charges of voyeurism, committed against six women over a period of six years.
Davidson, who performed under the stage name Ross William Wild, had a successful career in the West End musical 'We Will Rock You' and joined Spandau Ballet as their lead singer in 2018. However, his dark past has now come to light, with the court hearing disturbing details of his crimes.
During the trial, Davidson claimed consent from all the women, but the jury found him guilty on all charges. Judge John Dodd KC described Davidson's behavior as an 'adventurous attitude to matters sexually' and criticized his lack of respect towards the victims, some of whom had cared for or loved him.
The trial revealed that Davidson had filmed himself raping one woman, and several sexual assault charges were based on videos recovered from his phone, showing similar incidents of him touching sleeping women. The prosecution highlighted the vulnerability of the victims, stating that they were in a deep sleep and unaware of the assaults until informed by the police.
In a powerful statement, one of the victims expressed relief at seeing Davidson held accountable, encouraging others to speak up and seek support. Another victim emphasized the importance of speaking out about sexual violence, acknowledging the challenges but also the possibility of being heard and making a difference.
The case has brought attention to the issue of sexual violence and the importance of consent, with the victims' bravery in coming forward being widely praised. Davidson's defence counsel, Charlotte Newell KC, attributed his actions to undiagnosed ADHD and substance abuse, but also noted his remorse and improvement while in prison.
