Sara Sharif’s Siblings Granted Guardianship in Pakistan

A New Chapter for the Sharif Children

After a lengthy legal battle, the siblings of Sara Sharif, a young girl tragically murdered in 2023, have been granted a fresh start in Pakistan. The court’s decision ensures the children, aged between 16 and four, will remain in the care of their paternal grandfather, Muhammed Sharif.

This ruling brings an end to the legal limbo the children have endured since their arrival in Pakistan in August 2023.

A Safe Haven

The children’s journey to Pakistan was a tumultuous one. They were brought to the country by their father, stepmother, and uncle, who were later arrested at a UK airport. The family had been in hiding for weeks, and the children were discovered by police at their grandfather’s house.

The eldest child, when asked by the judge, expressed comfort and contentment with their current living situation.

Grandfather’s Relief and Responsibility

Muhammed Sharif, in an interview with the BBC, expressed his relief at the court’s decision, stating, “It is my responsibility to ensure they get the best possible education and care.” He hopes for a healthy and bright future for his grandchildren.

The children’s grandfather has been a consistent presence in their lives, advocating for their well-being and fighting for their right to stay in Pakistan.

Moving Forward

The children’s grandfather, Muhammed, acknowledges the hardships they’ve faced but remains optimistic about their future. He shares that he speaks to his son, Urfan Sharif, regularly, but their conversations are limited to well-being and do not touch upon the case or the children.

The children will retain their British passports and are expected to return to the UK when they reach an appropriate age, according to their grandfather.

This decision marks a significant step towards stability and security for the Sharif children, allowing them to rebuild their lives after a traumatic period.
