Guinness Theft: 70,000 Pints Missing in Cheshire

A Stout Heist

In a surprising turn of events, thieves have made off with a substantial stash of Ireland’s famous stout, Guinness. The heist, which took place on Monday at the Whitehouse Industrial Estate in Runcorn, Cheshire, involved two HGV trailers and a whopping 800 barrels of the beloved brew.

Cheshire Police reported that the stolen goods, amounting to approximately 70,000 pints, were valued at £115,000. The thieves struck twice, with one trailer disappearing around 19:45 BST and the second following suit at 21:30 BST.

Pubs Left High and Dry

The stolen barrels, each containing around 88 pints, were destined for pubs across the region, leaving many establishments without their signature drink.

Detective Sergeant McClatchy, with a touch of humor, commented, “It’s a well-known saying that ‘Guinness is good for you,’ but only when it’s purchased legally.”

The Trail of the Trailers

Police believe both HGVs were driven by men. One lorry was spotted heading towards the Mersey Gateway bridge, while the other made its way in the direction of Rainhill and Watkinson Way.

The drivers were described as follows: the first, a white man with a short dark beard and a beanie hat, and the second, believed to be wearing a cap.

The total value of the stolen goods, including the trailers and the beer, is estimated to be around £205,000.

Identifying the Missing Trailers

The trailers are described as white tri-axle curtain side trailers, adorned with branding for logistics company GXO on the curtains and rear doors. Each trailer bears a unique number on its rear door in the top left corner.

The numbers of the stolen trailers are DL736 and DL542, according to police.
