Chelsea Sign Strasbourg’s Valentin Barco
Midfielder Barco Joins Chelsea’s Asian Adventure
Chelsea have secured the signature of Strasbourg midfielder Valentin Barco, with the 21-year-old set to join the Blues’ pre-season tour in Asia.
Barco, who represented Argentina at the 2026 World Cup, has signed a seven-year deal with the London club, becoming their sixth summer acquisition.
A Rising Talent
The young midfielder began his career at Boca Juniors’ academy, making a name for himself in Argentina before joining Brighton in 2024. However, his time on the south coast was brief, and he soon moved to Strasbourg, where he established himself as a key player.
Barco’s talent was evident at the World Cup, where he made a single appearance for Argentina, who finished as runners-up to Spain.
A Familiar Path
This transfer marks the 13th deal between Chelsea and Strasbourg since last season, with both clubs under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. Barco follows in the footsteps of fellow Strasbourg player, whose name has not yet been disclosed.
The Blues are wasting no time in integrating their new signing, as Barco will join the team in Hong Kong for their upcoming friendly against Italian giants Juventus on August 5th.
With Chelsea’s midfield bolstered, the team looks forward to an exciting season ahead.
