Raducanu’s Queen’s Charge: Powering into the Final
Raducanu’s Resurgence at Queen’s
Britain’s Emma Raducanu is on a roll at the Queen’s Club Championships, powering her way into her first grass-court final with two impressive wins in a day.
The 23-year-old, seeking to regain her form after a challenging season, overcame an injury scare to defeat Kamilla Rakhimova 6-3, 7-5 in a delayed quarter-final before returning to dispatch Iva Jovic 6-2, 6-2 in the semi-final.
A Day of Triumphs
Raducanu’s quarter-final victory was a testament to her resilience. After slipping and injuring her left thigh, she returned to court with strapping and fought through difficult moments to secure the win.
In the semi-final, Raducanu dominated from the start, breaking Jovic’s serve early in both sets and showcasing her powerful groundstrokes.
The British number one’s performance impressed former British number one Annabel Croft, who drew parallels to Raducanu’s US Open triumph in 2021.
“I haven’t seen Emma strike the ball as well as this since the US Open,” Croft said. “She was mentally stronger and showed incredible resilience.”
Looking Ahead to the Final
Raducanu’s success at Queen’s has boosted her chances of being seeded at Wimbledon, which begins on June 29th. Currently ranked 42nd, her performance this week could see her climb higher.
In the final, Raducanu will face Croatia’s Donna Vekic, who defeated British player Katie Boulter in straight sets. Vekic, ranked 76th, will be a formidable opponent, but Raducanu is determined to claim her second career title.
“It means everything to be doing this here at Queen’s,” Raducanu said. “My team and I have been through tough moments, but we’ve put in the hard work, and I’m grateful for their support.”
Raducanu’s journey at Queen’s has been a remarkable comeback story, and her performance in the final will be one to watch.
Doubles Action and More
In the doubles competition, Leylah Fernandez and Laura Siegemund will face Britain’s Olivia Nicholls and Tereza Mihalikova for the title.
The Queen’s Club Championships have offered a thrilling display of women’s tennis, with Raducanu’s resurgence taking center stage.
