Police Officer Dies in Crash While Responding to Call

Tragedy Strikes Northumbria Police

Northumbria Police are mourning the loss of one of their own after 19-year-old officer Jess Turnbull died from injuries sustained in a crash while on duty.

Turnbull, who joined the force in September, was responding to a report of a collision between a Land Rover Freelander and a Ford Explorer on the A189 Spine Road in Cramlington on Monday night.

A Dedicated Officer

Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine described Turnbull as a “dedicated and committed” officer who had a bright future ahead of her.

“Jess had so much still to look forward to in her career and her life. She always sought to do her best to keep her communities safe,” said Jardine.

The Chief Constable’s words highlight the impact Turnbull had on her colleagues and the community in her short time as an officer.

A Community in Mourning

The tragedy has left a mark on the community, with the Northumbria Police Federation, a staff association representing the force’s officers, expressing their grief.

“Jess had already made a lasting impression on colleagues through her dedication, professionalism, and readiness to help people,” said Chairman Nick Munnelly.

The Federation’s tribute underscores the sense of loss felt by those who worked with Turnbull.

A Life Cut Short

Turnbull’s life was tragically cut short, but her dedication to duty and service to the community will not be forgotten.

The force has asked well-wishers to pay their respects at Northumbria Police’s Wallsend headquarters, a fitting tribute to a young officer who embodied the values of the police service.

As the community comes together to mourn, they also celebrate the life of a dedicated officer who made a difference in her short time on the force.
