Vashu Bhagnani’s Shocking Revelations: Inside the Coolie No. 1 Controversy

In a virtual press conference, Bollywood producer Vashu Bhagnani opened up about his recent legal and creative struggles in the industry. The focus of the discussion was the 2020 film 'Coolie No. 1', starring Varun Dhawan, and the subsequent fallout.

Bhagnani revealed that the film resulted in a significant financial loss of Rs. 27 crores, which he claims was not addressed by the lead actor, Varun Dhawan. He also shed light on the creative process and the initial plans for a sequel to the 1999 hit 'Biwi No. 1', directed by David Dhawan.

According to Bhagnani, he had paid David Dhawan a substantial amount of Rs. 70 crores to direct 'Coolie No. 1', despite the film's losses. The producer expressed his disappointment in David Dhawan's decision to collaborate with Ramesh Taurani on a new project, which allegedly used songs from 'Biwi No. 1' without proper consent.

Bhagnani stated, 'We sold the audio rights of Biwi No. 1 to Tips, but they were not willing to cooperate. We had to take legal action to protect our rights.' He further emphasized the importance of ethical conduct in the industry, suggesting that David Dhawan should have sought his approval before recreating songs from his production.

The conference shed light on the challenges faced by producers in the competitive world of Bollywood, where financial losses and creative disagreements can have significant consequences.
