Surat Court Orders FIR Against Anurag Kashyap for Alleged Anti-Brahmin Remarks
In a significant development, the Surat court has taken action against filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap for his alleged remarks on social media. The court has directed the police to file a criminal case, marking a serious turn in the controversy.
The decision came after a private complaint was filed by Kamlesh Raval, a lawyer and leader of the Vishva Hindu Parishad. Raval, belonging to the Brahmin community, claimed that Kashyap's posts on a social media platform contained objectionable content targeting Brahmins. The complaint specifically pointed to Kashyap's reaction to the trailer launch of the film 'Phule' in April 2022, which sparked the initial controversy.
According to Raval, Kashyap not only posted offensive comments but also engaged in a series of exchanges with users, further exacerbating the issue. The complaint argued that Kashyap's remarks had the potential to cause social division and harm the reputation of the Brahmin community. Given Kashyap's status as a public figure in the entertainment industry, the complaint emphasized the potential impact of his statements on a wide audience.
The court, in its order, instructed authorities to register a case under various sections, including promoting hostility between groups and intentional insult to disturb public peace. This move underscores the court's commitment to addressing issues that could potentially disrupt social harmony.
Interestingly, the complaint also referenced an older social media post by Kashyap from January 2020, where he allegedly criticized the Union government and used terms deemed objectionable towards Hindus. This suggests a pattern of controversial statements by the filmmaker.
Despite multiple notices and summons, Kashyap has not publicly responded to the latest court order, leaving the matter unresolved for now.
