Australia’s Fuel Crisis: NSW Stations Affected, WA Takes Action

In New South Wales, one in seven service stations are experiencing fuel shortages, with 347 out of 2,414 stations running low on at least one fuel type. This situation has worsened since yesterday, with an increase in stations facing shortages. The NSW government is taking action, using emergency powers to ensure fuel supply stability.

The energy department's update highlights the impact of the Middle East conflict on fuel availability. While 59 stations are completely out of fuel, 207 stations are specifically facing diesel shortages. The government has issued information notices to major fuel companies, with a significant fine for non-compliance.

Meanwhile, Western Australia is also grappling with fuel-related challenges. The state has appointed a fuel security coordinator and is urging fuel suppliers to be more transparent about their supply chains. This comes as Tropical Cyclone Narelle, a powerful storm, approaches the state's coastline, adding to the complexities.

WA's emergency services minister, Paul Papalia, provided an update on the cyclone's trajectory, which is expected to make landfall as a category three system. The storm has already caused damage in Exmouth, with roof damage and power outages reported. The state is also dealing with wildlife-related incidents, including a distressing case of alleged koala cruelty in Victoria.

As Australia navigates these challenges, the focus remains on ensuring fuel security and managing the impact of natural disasters. The government's swift actions and the appointment of a fuel security coordinator demonstrate a proactive approach to addressing these pressing issues.
